Would you give up your uterus to have a flat stomach? Some doctors think you should.

I have never liked my belly, even when it was flat. I never realized it then though...
If you're like me, you thought you had a belly before you HAD a belly! I look back at pictures when I was a teen and think what was I thinking? Wow can I have that belly back? But no, I can't. It changed. I'm not sure exactly why or when. I can't blame it on my daughter/childbirth. It was "pouchy" before. I was that person who was always self-conscious sitting down. I didn't want to show my muffin top! You never seen cellulite, back fat, extra skin or thighs touching (stupidest thing ever) much less a round belly in Cosmo or any other magazines or ads back then. Everyone wanted to have a snatched waist and a big chest. Unfortunately, those things don't often go together and when they do they tend to be fleeting. Cheers to the ladies that do have that combo.
Sigh...but I won't be one of them. Years ago, when I was having issues with my back, I had an MRI. The MRI indicated degenerative disc disease, a cyst, severe arthritis and large uterine fibroids...
OK... so I started religiously using my yoga (I'm certified) eating to reduce inflammation and lifting weights really focusing on my back. Wow, between the food and weights I felt a ton better and my back pain was manageable and sometimes nonexistent! My body started looking better due to the weights and food adjustments. One thing didn't change though, and that was my low belly.
Very irritating but what could I do?
I decided to ask last week when I went to the doctor for my woman well visit. If you don't go regularly, you should. We'll talk about that on another day. Now that doesn't mean you should or have to do and listen to everything they say.
Here's my argument why you must absolutely be proactive when it comes to your health and know that you are in charge and need to understand and even at times get a 2nd opinion or 3rd or look at holistic options. Read on.
My doctor recommended that I get a hysterectomy. What??? Really???
She asked were my periods regular-yes, painful sex, no, well you'll never have a flat stomach.
Those were her exact words. "You'll never have a flat stomach". She wasn't rude, she simply stated what she believed was true and went on to say we could continue to monitor and if I had problems move forward with a hysterectomy later. Is there anything else I asked? Yes a procedure that she didn't have a lot of information where they starve the blood supply to the fibroids in an effort to reduce them. Must not make the practice a lot of money because there were no pamphlets on the procedure, and they forgot to write the name of the procedure down for me to look up.
I was in disbelief, slightly outraged because I know some women would really take those words to the bank and be scheduled for a hysterectomy for no good medical reason. That decision could impact their marriage ahem sex life, hormones, and have numerous other side effects for what-a flat stomach.
Not shaming anyone with a different opinion simply reminding y'all to be vigilant about your health and do your research before any surgery. If you have issues that's one thing. Surgeries like these for aesthetic reasons aren't my cup of tea. To each her own.
I'm going to keep my belly -for now. I'm not convinced that I can't find a 'woo woo' solution like castor oil wraps or maybe herbal medicine and let me tell you I'm going to have fun and kick up my heels while I'm doing it because in the long run, I feel pretty darn good as I get close to 50. Mayne I'll start a trend with my fembot belly.
Belly yoga anyone? Wink, wink.
